BANKING

Currency: US Dollars (1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100) and Cents (1, 5, 10, 25)

I like to collect coins, so I have a Collection of US Coins among other countries'. You will understand the meaning of each coin by visiting the website of US Mint, Department of Treasury.

Keep some quarters (25-cent coin) whenever you go out. You may need some for telephone, parking, refresher, or any other services at automated machines.

Banking Services

Search for banks that offer student's accounts, i.e. you do not have to pay the maintenance/ transaction fee during a certain period of time. In my case, I have used Chase Bank with 5-year fee waiver.

- Checks: you have to order at your own expense unless you do not use them, e.g. to pay for the rent.

- Bank cards: the most popular are VISA and Master. Both, no matter if it is debit or credit, can be used for on-line or in-store payment.

- On-line banking: sign up an ID and manage your account whenever and wherever you are.

- Savings account: though the interest rate is very low, this is a good way to limit your comsumption.
